Request Feedback Feature

Request feedback lets you invite someone outside your review to add their perspective, without giving them full access to your journey.

What it is

When you are working on a career conversation, you or your manager can invite a third party (for example a skip-level manager) to leave notes on that review. The person you invite is called the recipient, and you are the requester.

It is a lighter-touch option than adding a full co-contributor to the journey. You choose who to ask, and depending on how your journey is set up, they either leave notes from their dashboard or read the review first and then add notes.

Why it's there

Request feedback is deliberately light touch. The most important part of a career conversation is the conversation itself, so feedback is an optional extra view rather than a blocker. The review can always move forward without it, and it will not stall if the person you ask never gets round to replying.

That makes it useful when someone outside the journey wants an input on a single review. A skip-level manager, for example, might use it to sense-check the quality of a conversation, or you might simply want a second perspective, all without adding a permanent contributor across the whole journey.

Who can use it

You can request feedback if you are the employee or manager on the collab doc. Other journey participants on that document can request it too.

Two things need to be in place for the option to appear:

  • Your organisation has the Feedback Requests feature turned on.
  • The feedback setting on your journey type is not switched off.

If you do not see a Request Feedback button in the feedback bar at the top of a collab doc, one of those two is usually the reason. Ask your Korero administrator to check the journey's feedback setting or whether the feature is enabled.

How to use it

  1. Open the collab doc as the employee or manager.
  2. Select Request Feedback in the feedback bar at the top of the document.
  3. If your journey lets the employee choose the access level, pick Feedback only or Full review access. (When a manager requests feedback on this type of journey, the choice is fixed to feedback only for privacy, and this option is disabled.)
  4. Choose a recipient. Where possible this defaults to the manager's manager, but you can pick someone else.
  5. Add a message if one is needed (see "Good to know" below), then send the request.

The feedback bar keeps a list of your outstanding and completed requests. Once someone replies, a short preview of their note appears in that row, and you can select View more to read the full text. Both the employee and manager on the document can delete any request.

What the recipient sees

How much the recipient can see depends on the access level set for your journey type:

  • Feedback only — the recipient gets an email and a prompt on their dashboard to leave notes. They do not see the collab doc, so you need to include a message giving them context.
  • Full review access — the recipient gets read-only access to the collab doc, plus a notes section at the bottom of the page. A message from you is optional.

When you send the request, the recipient receives an email with a link (to the collab doc for full access, or to their dashboard for feedback only). For full review access, a short message explains that they can read the review first and then add their notes at the bottom of the page. You and your manager are emailed when the recipient saves a note.

Good to know

  • Full review access is read-only. Recipients can read the review but cannot edit answers or leave question-level comments. They add their input in the separate notes section at the bottom of the page.
  • Feedback-only requests need a message. If your journey is set to feedback only and you leave the message blank, the request will not send.
  • You cannot send a request to yourself. Pick a different recipient.
  • One active request per recipient. If you already have an open request out to someone, delete it before sending them a new one.
  • Recipients can edit their own notes for 24 hours after submitting.
  • You can request feedback at any point. It works while the review is still in progress or after it is finished. If you ask before the review is complete, the recipient may see partial answers that change as you keep working. That is expected.
  • Deleting a request removes access straight away. If you or your manager delete a request, the recipient can no longer open the document.
